MaximumRockandRoll, the legendary punk fanzine from San Francisco, reviewed the latest Agrotóxico's full-length on their April edition (issue #299). The band is honored to get such a positive review from the world's premiere punk rag. Read the transcription below:
AGROTOXICO - "Libertacao" CD
Their fifth LP since 1993, Libertacao has AGROTOXICO delivering fourteen more tracks of burly, classic Brazilian hardcore, with gruff, throaty vocals spewed over a mid-tempo hardcore charge, shouted choruses, and the non-stop, drum-driven manic energy that marks the style. RATOS DE PORÃO always comes up as a reference point outside Brazil, and while there are similarities, this album is less thrashy, lacks the metallic edge, and is more of a forceful, straight-ahead VARUKERS-styled punk attack. Combine with that a stepped-up level of musical proficiency, intensity, and inventiveness all captured in a great recording — it seems Brazilian hardcore weighs in heavier and heavier on the world stage with great record after great record like this Cameo vocal from members of OLHO SECO, AÇÃO DIRETA, and LOBOTOMIA only make this more unrelenting.
